"Port of Excelsior" Excelsior, MN

In 1853, the initial boat landing which was to become today’s Port of Excelsior, was key to the development of the city of Excelsior. Excelsior incorporated in 1877 and soon became an international tourist destination, complete with deluxe hotels, the Excelsior Amusement Park, and luxury excursion steamboats. The streetcar steamboat, The Minnehaha, depicted on the card, was built in 1906. It was part of the fleet of streetcar steamboats operated on Lake Minnetonka. Scuttled in 1926, The Minnehaha was raised in 1979 and put back into service in 1996. Today, The Minnehaha sails from Excelsior and Wayzata every weekend from late May through early October.
